Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the reduced-sodium soy sauce, water, nutritional yeast, smoked paprika, dried oregano, garlic powder, and chili powder until well-combined.
  2. Heat 1-2 tablespoons of oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Crumble the firm or extra-firm tofu into the skillet and sauté for 10-15 minutes until golden-brown.
  3. Carefully pour the prepared seasoning mixture over the tofu and stir well. Cook for an additional 8-10 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle in 2-3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour over the tofu mixture, stirring continuously for about 5 minutes.
  5. Gradually whisk in 1-2 cups of water and 1 cup of soy milk into the mixture. Stir on medium heat for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Once thickened, remove from heat and stir in 1-2 tablespoons of melted vegan butter. Serve hot over biscuits or mashed potatoes.
