For the Whipped Cream

  • ¼ cup powdered sugar Honey or sugar substitute can be used for lower-sugar version.
  • 2 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder Optional, can omit if desired.

Preparation Steps
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 3 cups of milk, 1 cup of heavy cream, and a pinch of salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently until the mixture begins to simmer, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and add 12 oz of finely chopped semi-sweet chocolate. Whisk until the chocolate melts completely and the texture becomes smooth and glossy.
  3. Stir in ½ to 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract, starting with the smaller amount. Taste and adjust to your liking.
  4. In a mixing bowl, pour in ¾ cup of heavy cream, and add ¼ cup of powdered sugar with 2 tbsp of cocoa powder if using. Whip until medium peaks form, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Pour the hot chocolate into warm mugs, fill them three-quarters full, and top with the whipped cream. Enjoy warm.
