Step-by-Step Instructions for Crispy Amish Onion Fritters
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk these dry ingredients until well blended. Fold in chopped sweet onions and gradually stir in milk to create a thick batter.
- Heat about ½ inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat, to a temperature of 350°F.
- Drop heaping tablespoons of the batter into the hot oil, spaced 2–3 inches apart. Flatten each fritter lightly with the back of the spoon. Fry for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Carefully flip each fritter and fry for another 2-3 minutes until golden brown on the other side.
- Drain the fritters on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes
Always use fresh baking powder for the best results, and ensure the oil is hot enough to achieve a crispy texture. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
