Step-by-Step Instructions
- Wash 1 pound of white mushrooms thoroughly under cool water, ensuring all dirt is removed. Pat them dry and slice thickly.
- Combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour with 1 teaspoon each of salt and black pepper in a mixing bowl. Whisk until blended. If using an egg, whisk it with a splash of milk in a separate bowl.
- Dip each mushroom slice into the flour mixture, followed by the egg mixture (if using), then coat in flour or breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
- Heat sufficient vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches approximately 350°F (175°C).
- Add the coated mushroom slices to the hot oil in small batches and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden-brown.
- Remove the fried sliced mushrooms using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Serve hot fried sliced mushrooms alongside ranch dressing for dipping and garnish with chopped parsley.

Notes
Ensure oil is at the right temperature and fry in small batches to avoid sogginess. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
