- Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C). Gather all your ingredients and equipment.
- Combine flour, yeast, optional poppy seeds, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Mix buttermilk, sugar, and melted butter in a microwave-safe bowl; warm for 30 seconds.
- Pour the warm buttermilk mixture into the dry ingredient bowl. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well, then fold in lemon zest.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for 10-20 minutes.
