Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or honey for a unique taste
  • 1 teaspoon salt sea salt for better flavor
  • 1 cup warm milk about 110°F, or almond milk for dairy-free
  • 1 large egg a flax egg for a vegan option
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast regular yeast works too but requires proofing
  • 1/2 cup softened butter or margarine for dairy-free
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour whole wheat flour can be a healthier swap
Filling
  • 2 cups shredded cheese cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite mix
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or fresh minced garlic for better flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or oregano/basil for a distinct touch
  • 2 tablespoons additional butter reduce for a lighter version

Method
 

Making the Rolls
  1. In a stand mixer, combine sugar, salt, warm milk, egg, instant yeast, softened butter, and all-purpose flour. Start mixing on low speed for a couple of minutes, then increase to medium for about 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  2. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and place it in a warm area, allowing it to rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  3. Punch down the dough gently and knead briefly. On a floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle approximately ½ inch thick.
  4. Spread softened butter over the rolled-out dough. Sprinkle an even layer of shredded cheese on top, followed by garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
  5. Starting from one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log shape. Cut the rolled dough into 1-2 inch pieces.
  6. Cover the sliced rolls with a towel and let them rise again in a warm spot for about 20 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 18-20 minutes until golden brown and the cheese inside bubbles.
