Ingredients

For the Tea Base
  • 4 cups Water Acts as the essential base for extracting the aromatic flavors from the spices.
  • 2 stalks Cinnamon Sticks Adds warmth and depth of flavor; can substitute with ground cinnamon if needed.
  • 2 inches Fresh Ginger Provides a spicy kick; dried ginger can work as a substitute in smaller amounts.
  • 2 teaspoons Anise Seeds Imparts a sweet, licorice-like flavor; star anise can be used for a similar taste.
  • 1 pinch Nutmeg Complements the spice blend with its fragrant note; freshly grated nutmeg is preferred.
For Sweetening
  • 0.5 cups Granulated Sugar Sweetens the tea; feel free to adjust sweetness to your liking or use honey for a unique twist.
For Garnishing
  • 1 handful Chopped Nuts (Walnuts, Pine Nuts, Pistachios, Almonds) Adds a delightful crunch; choose your favorite or opt for a nut-free version.

Equipment

  • medium saucepan
  • Fine Mesh Sieve

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, pour in four cups of water and bring it to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  2. As the water bubbles, add in two cinnamon sticks, a sliced two-inch piece of fresh ginger, two teaspoons of anise seeds, and a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan, allowing the concoction to simmer gently for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  4. About ten minutes before you're ready to serve, uncover the saucepan and whisk in half a cup of granulated sugar until fully dissolved.
  5. After the cooking time has elapsed, remove the saucepan from heat and strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve.
  6. To serve, place a handful of chopped nuts at the bottom of each cup and carefully pour the hot tea over the nuts.
