  • 1 pound ground chicken or ground turkey
  • 1 onion diced; shallots work for milder flavor
  • 2 cloves garlic fresh minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger minced; ginger paste as substitute
  • 1 cup water chestnuts chopped; can substitute with celery
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce or homemade for tailored taste
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil or olive oil for a lighter version
  • 1 dash black pepper to taste
For the Wraps
  • 12 butter lettuce leaves or romaine
  • 2 green onions sliced; chives as alternative
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds optional

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Carefully wash and dry the butter lettuce leaves and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Brown the ground chicken in the skillet for 5-7 minutes until no longer pink.
  4. Add diced onion, minced garlic, and ginger to the skillet; sauté until onion softens.
  5. Stir in chopped water chestnuts, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil; cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Fold in sliced green onions, reserving some for garnish; combine well.
  7. Spoon filling into lettuce leaves and garnish with reserved green onions and sesame seeds.
  8. Serve immediately on a platter.
