  • 4 servings instant ramen noodles discard seasoning packets
  • 2 cups water adjust based on packaging instructions
For the Beef and Aromatics
  • 1 tablespoon oil any cooking oil of your choice
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil toasted for bolder taste
  • 4 cloves garlic fresh minced; substitute with garlic powder (1/4 tsp) if needed
  • 1 medium onion can replace with shallots or leeks
  • 200 grams ground beef can substitute with ground chicken, pork, or turkey
For the Sauces
  • 3 tablespoons dark soy sauce use regular soy sauce if dark isn't available
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce vegetarian oyster sauce works well as a substitute
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce can replace with more oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mirin substitute with dry sherry or water and broth mix
For the Crunch
  • 1 cup bean sprouts substitute with finely sliced cabbage or other quick-cook veggies
For Garnishing
  • 2 stalks green onions sliced for freshness and color
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds toasted for texture and visual appeal

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, combine dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and mirin. Whisk until well blended and set aside.
  2. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add sliced onions and minced garlic; sauté for about 1.5 minutes.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the browned beef, stirring to coat. Allow it to bubble and thicken for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Push the beef mixture to one side of the skillet. Pour enough water to cover the bottom and place the ramen noodles in.
  6. Cook the ramen noodles for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally until tender.
  7. Add bean sprouts to the skillet and stir into the noodle mixture. Cook for an additional minute.
  8. Scoop the noodles into bowls and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
