- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
- Cook the penne pasta in salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente, about 9-11 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine drained penne, shredded chicken, BBQ sauce, cream, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Stir until well combined.
- Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste and mix well for even flavor distribution.
- Pour the pasta mixture into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously over the top of the pasta mixture.
- If using breadcrumbs, heat olive oil in a skillet and sauté the breadcrumbs until golden brown. Sprinkle over the cheese layer.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.
- Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Optionally, garnish with chopped green onions.
