Step-by-Step Instructions for Soft Earl Grey Sugar Cookies
- In a small saucepan, combine unsalted butter and 2-3 teaspoons of Earl Grey tea leaves. Melt the butter over low heat, stirring gently until fully melted. Once melted, remove from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature for about 10 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooled, tea-infused butter with 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Mix on medium speed until well blended, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add a large egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the mixture. Mix on medium speed until fully incorporated and smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 2.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of table salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients on low speed.
- Cover the cookie dough with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Using a cookie scoop, portion out the chilled dough, about 2-3 tablespoons each. Roll each ball in granulated sugar and place on baking sheets, spacing them 3-4 inches apart.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges look lightly golden. Allow to cool on the tray for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes
For best results, measure flour accurately and ensure the butter cools properly before mixing. Don't skip chilling the dough for enhanced flavor.
